Foot scanning works by using specialized imaging technology to capture the shape and contours of a person's foot. A scanner, often equipped sensors or cameras, analyzes the foot's dimensions, pressure points, and arch height. It can measure people's gait which is a neccessity when making custom orthotics. Some practitioners do not use any equipment and most of their work is left to chance and guessing what the patient may need which can result into multiple visits trying to get the orthotic right. This can then put doubt in the patients mind at what type of service they will be getting. This data is then processed to create a detailed 3D model, which can be used for various applications, such as custom orthotics, shoe fitting or ergonomic assessments.
